The world’s most outstanding indoor collection of armoured fighting vehicles is contained within “The Tank Museum” at Bovington. There is a unique array of WW1 tanks and a carefully restored German Tiger Tank, there are also displayed in the five large halls over 150 fighting vehicles gathered together from 26 countries. The history of armoured warfare is cleverly narrated by the use of its exhibitions starting with re-creations of German and British trenches and the story is completed with one of the tanks that saw action during the “Gulf War”. As well as the visual exhibitions there is also free acoustic audio guide with additional information.
This is a great museum for the old and the young and captures your imagination to the full. On afternoons you can find a show that have tanks shooting at one another and you get to see what it was like in the trenches. You can also pay to take part in extra activities such as kids activities or even a ride on a tank. The Tank Museum also holds the annual ‘Tankfest’ which hosts the World’s best display of moving armour. This is a great day out and attracts people from all over Europe. Onsite you can find a restaurant that serves good quality food at affordable prices. On buying your ticket this automatically gives you an annual pass so you can return on your next Bournemouth holiday. Entrance fee’s are; Adults £12.50, Children (5 years and over) £7.00. Family tickets are also available. You can buy all tickets online. The Museum is open daily throughout the year between 10am - 5pm. The Tank Museum at Bovington is just a 40 minute drive from Bournemouth Town. Certainly a worthwhile journey to make. Overall you will find your visit very informative and fun, you will no doubt want to be making the most of your annual ticket and heading back soon.
